Beyond the Shell is a hand-built terracotta sculpture that delves into themes of protective boundaries, personal sanctuary, and organic evolution. The artwork features deeply carved, shell-like layers that spiral outwards, suggesting a journey of self-discovery where vulnerability is shielded by structural strength. Shweta Jain Maheshwari spent weeks shaping the mask-like contours and refining the rough surfaces to reflect the weathering of time. By contrasting smooth polished interior curves with highly textured exterior reliefs, the sculpture represents the duality of human nature: the soft, quiet inner self and the hardened, protective outer persona. The earthy terracotta medium grounds the piece, connecting it to ancestral Indian clay traditions while speaking to contemporary collector sensibilities.
